Update to Crime Victims Regarding Early Release of Criminal Defendants Serving Prison Sentences Pursuant to House Bill 3508
In Washington County, the Court received notice of an intended additional 10% sentence reduction (increasing the current rate from 20% to 30%) for over 420 state inmates. This generated approximately 340 individual hearings before the Court for early release consideration. Many people statewide expressed concern that the bill included violent offenders in the early release process. Many news outlets discussed the bill's results and report that the Legislature will be reviewing the bill during the February, 2010 special session.
