Protective Mother Stops Serial Child Rapist
In early January 2011, an adult male repeatedly called the home of a Hillsboro family, claiming to be the boyfriend of one of the children in the home. Unknown at the time to the child's mother, the adult male had previously met her 9th grade daughter on a chat line, and the two had talked on the phone. The mom demanded the male not call again, but the male kept calling, and even told the mom that he is intelligent. The mom refused to be intimidated and worked with Hillsboro Police to identify the male caller, who turned out to be 47 year old serial child rapist David Allen Baker.
Baker's known criminal past in Oregon and Minnesota includes 2 ½ years in prison for the 1985 rape of an elementary school child after she left school for the day, 4 years in prison for the 1996 rape of a 6 year old child whom Baker was babysitting, handwriting out a plan to rape an 11 year old child, failing to complete sex offender treatment multiple times, multiple convictions for failing to register as a sex offender, violating his parole, delivering methamphetamine, theft, forgery, and being designated as a high risk predatory sex offender. Baker has also advertised on the Internet seeking a "sex slave" as young as 14 years old.
On January 6th, 2011, police arrested Baker, who was in possession of documents about raping children, and a paper trail of his Internet search to find where the child and her family lived. After Baker's arrest, the mom and her husband saw Baker's mug shot and realized that for weeks Baker had been lurking around their family home, following family members when they left, and that Baker had even knocked on their door under false pretenses. The mom and her family continued to work with authorities to obtain justice in court.
On September 28th, 2011, a jury convicted Baker of ONLINE SEXUAL CORRUPTION OF A CHILD, and ATTEMPTED RAPE IN THE THIRD DEGREE. The following day the trial judge convicted Baker of UNLAWFUL CONTACT WITH A CHILD. Baker's sentencing is scheduled for January 10th, 2012. Thanks to a Hillsboro mom who wouldn't back down and to Oregon's recent tough sentencing laws, a serial child rapist finally faces a possible sentence of life imprisonment.
