Fair and Fairgrounds Agreement
After two rounds of public input, the Washington County Board of Commissioners and the Washington County Fair Board recently adopted an agreement to:
- Optimize the planning, preparation and production of a quality County fair event;
- Strengthen partnership and collaboration among the Board of Commissioners, Fair Board, Boosters, staff and other interested parties;
- Clarify Fair Board and County roles and responsibilities and formalize channels of communication and collaboration;
- Focus energy, passion and expertise of the Fair Board on the production of the fair event;
- Optimize operational efficiencies and leverage the resources, staff and expertise of Washington County;
- Form and staff an advisory committee to the Board of Commissioners to provide input for updating and implementing the Fairgrounds Master Plan, Fairgrounds Capital Projects Plan and other major site-related initiatives.
Final Agreement
The final agreement memorializes a more focused role for the Fair Board: to plan, prepare and produce the County Fair. Under this agreement, management and supervision of staff, facilities maintenance, facilities planning and off-fair events are the responsibility of the County. The agreement also discusses the creation of a Fairgrounds Development Advisory Committee to provide advice and counsel to the Board of Commissioners on the Fairgrounds Master Plan, Fairgrounds Capital Projects Plan and other major site-related initiatives. The final version of the agreement is provided below.
