Washington County's Strategic Plan identifies one of the County's many roles as a provider of basic governmental services that constitute part of the "infrastructure" that makes economic development possible. The County works in partnership with other organizations to provide such services as economic development coordination, marketing, business recruitment and business retention. The County also works with citizens, businesses and other levels of government to provide comprehensive land use and transportation, public safety, public health and affordable and low-income housing services for livable and economically strong communities.
