Alcohol & Drugs

Alcohol and drug abuse and dependency are issues in Oregon.  In fact, 8 out of 10 of the leading causes of death in Oregon are at least partially caused by the use of alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs.  The numbers don’t lie; about 9 percent of Oregon youth (12-17 years old) abuse, or are dependent on, alcohol or illicit drugs.  Twenty-two percent of young adults, 18 to 25, abuse, or are dependent on, alcohol or illicit drugs.

A conservative estimate is that almost 30,000 people in Washington County abuse, or are dependent on, alcohol and are in need of treatment, and an additional 11,000 people, 12 or older, abuse, or are dependent on, illicit drugs.

Addiction to a substance can be a vicious cycle, but the cycle can be broken.  Not sure if there is a problem?  Take the Substance Abuse Quiz.  If you are considering treatment, and would like to learn more about a provider, then take a look at the list of providers Washington County contracts with.
