Alcohol & Drugs

Alcohol and drug abuse and dependency are issues in Oregon. In fact, 8 out of 10 of the leading causes of death in Oregon are at least partially caused by the use of alcohol, tobacco or other drugs. The numbers don’t lie:
  • About 9 percent of Oregon youth (12-17) abuse or are dependent on alcohol or illicit drugs.
  • Twenty-two percent of young adults (18 to 25) abuse or are dependent on alcohol or illicit drugs.
  • A conservative estimate is that almost 30,000 people in Washington County abuse or are dependent on alcohol and are in need of treatment
  • An additional 11,000 people ages 12 and up abuse or are dependent on illicit drugs.

Addiction to a substance can be a vicious cycle, but the cycle can be broken. Not sure if there is a problem?
