Abuse & Neglect

It is against the law to commit acts of cruelty or neglect to animals. This includes such inhumane activities as depriving an animal of food, water, or adequate shelter; or confining an animal under conditions that endanger the animal.

Call us if you see any case of cruelty or neglect. We need information from you so that we can help the animal. We’ll ask you for your name, address, telephone number, cross street, animal owner's name (if known), address, and cross street. We’ll ask you what kind of problem you’re reporting, the type of animal that you believe is being harmed, and when you first noticed the problem.

We give priority to responding to animals that are in immediate danger.

We take abuse and neglect allegations very seriously. Sometimes we will take an animal under protective custody to keep it safe. People who abuse or neglect animals may be fined, imprisoned, or both.
