When we observe a situation or receive a complaint that raises concern about the safety of an animal, we may perform a welfare check on the animal.
When we perform a welfare check, we talk to the animal’s owner. We check for things such as whether the animal has access to shelter, food and water. We also check out the animal’s overall condition.
If we cannot get in touch with the owner when we arrive, we leave a notice for the owner to call us back and make an appointment.
If we find any problem on the welfare check, such as abuse or neglect, we will take the steps we can to remedy the problem.
