Opportunities

We have a wide range of volunteer needs. We’ll work with you to help you find a great volunteer experience with us.

Some of the volunteer jobs that help us out the most include:

Dog Walkers: All dogs need exercise to be happy – and dogs in shelters need it even more. We have a corps of people who come regularly to walk our dogs or to play with them in our fenced Play Yard. This kind of fun is healthy for both the pooch and the person.

Kitty Playmate: Our cats also need fun and stimulation. We have volunteers who come to play with the cats, helping them to relax here in the shelter and to learn to trust strangers.

Direct Animal Care: Caring for 7,500 animals a year takes a lot of elbow grease. We especially appreciate the volunteers who help us clean the kennels in the cattery and dog areas and lovingly handle the animals in their runs. This is one of the key jobs that helps the animals become adoptable pets.

Foster Care: We receive hundreds of cats with tiny kittens every year, and need loving homes where the mama cats can safely raise their babies until the kittens are old enough to be adopted. We also need homes to help nice but untrained dogs learn the social skills to make them adoptable.

Got Skills? We welcome your specialized skills. Are you a groomer? A trainer? A Veterinary Technician? Are you great with computers? We need a wide variety of skills to help us help the animals.

Benefits of volunteering include:

  • Satisfaction from working on behalf of the animals and belonging to a group of dedicated volunteers
  • Opportunity to share your special skills and interests
  • Free on-the-job training (Our shelter and others often hire people who have gained experience as volunteers.)
