Multifamily Resident Recycling

Recycling is easy as 1, 2, 3 in your community!

  1. Separate your recyclables from your garbage and collect in a box, durable bag, or tub.  Keep glass separate from the rest of the recyclables.  Glass is processed separately from other recyclables. If glass is mixed in with the recycling, it damages machinery and poses a hazard to the people working on the sorting line.

Note:  Please do not use plastic bags to collect your home recycling and do not put plastic bags into recycling collection containers.  Plastic bags create major problems in the machinery at recycling processing centers.

  2. Look for the recycling signs or stickers on containers and inside enclosures when depositing your recyclables.   Look for Glass-Only Recycling Decalrecycling containers. Glass Decal

  3. Feel good about doing your part to conserve resources and keep our community clean.  Encourage your friends and neighbors to do the same.

What if my community does not offer recycling?

Individual residents of multi-family housing are typically not able to sign up for recycling service on their own. Multi-family property managers need to contact their garbage/recycling collection service provider to request recycling service.  Encourage your property manager to establish a recycling program.  Let them know it is important to you and your neighbors.  Tell them about the free property manager assistance program – that it makes recycling easy.

If you do not currently have recycling service at your building, you can still recycle at a local recycling drop-off site.
