What You Can Do

Mosquitoes need standing water to breed. Did you know that one inch of standing water in a coffee can may potentially produce over 1,000 mosquitoes every seven days?
You can:
- Eliminate the places around your home where water collects. Encourage your neighbors to do the same.
- Avoid being outdoors during peak biting times; from dusk to dawn.
- Wear long sleeves and long pants while outdoors.
- Use mosquito repellent with DEET, Picaridin (KBR 3023), or lemon eucalyptus (PMD)
- Always read and follow label directions
- Look for a 25% DET concentration or less for adults and 10% DEET concentration or less for children. Picaridin (KBR 3023) and lemon eucalyptus (PMD) have also been found to be effective
- Do not apply to young children's hands or near their eyes or mouth
- Wash hands with soap and water before eating
- Wash treated skin thoroughly with soap and water after going inside.
- Report dead birds.
- Use Mosquito fish in water troughs or self-contained waterways.
