North Bethany Background
North Bethany Planning
The 800-acre North Bethany area, located generally north of Springville Road between NW 185th Avenue and the Washington County line, was added to the urban growth boundary (UGB) in 2002. Now within the UGB, the county is coordinating with the public and stakeholders to determine future urban land use designations for these historically rural lands. A three year planning process has resulted in a conceptual land use plan and code language that will implement the plan. The concept plan envisions that North Bethany will be planned as an extension of the existing Bethany community to the south. The area will be predominantly residential with a mix of parks, open space, schools and neighborhood services supported by a multimodal transportation system. In the summer and fall of 2009, the Planning Commission and Board of County Commissioners will review proposed Ordinance 712 which consists of the comprehensive plan and development code language that will guide development in North Bethany. In addition to Ordinance 712, Washington County is developing a funding plan that will determine how some of the major infrastructure will be paid for in the North Bethany area. This funding plan will be reviewed by the Board of County Commissioners in summer and fall of 2009.
