We re-use street light and traffic signal poles when we can. We build our roads to be sustainable, with 8 to 12 inches of asphalt. When they need re-paving, we simply grind off the top few inches, heat it up, add a little more and pour it back on top of the road – recycled in place! And when we have extra left over asphalt grindings, we use it to pave some of our rural roads. We are also looking at new pavement designs with lower life cycle costs (and lower use of hydrocarbons) – so called "perpetual pavements".
