Welcome to the Kids Korner! We made this page for kids just like you who want to learn about transportation and how it affects you.
So what is transportation? It is the movement of people, animals and goods from one place to another. You can do this by walking, riding your bicycle or skateboard, riding in a car or plane, or even by taking the train.
In order for that movement to happen, you need things like roads, sidewalks, and bicycle lanes. Those things don’t just appear out of thin air (although it would be pretty cool if they did)! Washington County builds and maintains these things to make sure you and your family and friends can get from point A to point B.
OK, now we know where our roads, sidewalks and bike lanes come from…and there are lots of people like you and me that need to transport ourselves from one place to the next from time to time…so we must be all set, right? What else would we need to know? Oh yeah! We probably should know how to get from one place to the next safely!
Those of us at Washington County want you, your family and your friends to have fun and be safe when you travel on your bikes, in cars with grown ups, taking walks or skateboarding in your neighborhoods.
Well guess what? Safety starts with you! The more you know, the safer you will be!
We have a bunch of fun links that can help you learn more about getting around safely. Visit our Kids Korner Topics webpage to get started!
Be safe and have fun, kids!
