Walnut St (116th to Tiedeman)

PROJECT PAGES

Walnut Street between 116th Avenue and Tiedeman Avenue (located in the city of Tigard) currently consists of two travel lanes, limited street lighting and inadequate drainage facilities. Sidewalks are intermittent and no bicycle facilities exist. This section of Walnut Street is adjacent to densely populated residential neighborhoods and Fowler Middle School.

This project proposes to improve Walnut Street between 116th and Tiedeman, providing a safer and more efficient commute for travelers along with a safer route to Fowler Middle School for students, parents and staff.  Improvements include two travel lanes with an intermittent center turn lane, the addition of sidewalks, curbs, bicycle facilities, street lighting, landscaping and drainage facilities. The project will upgrade an existing inadequately sized culvert and will underground utilities. The city also plans to fund an extension of their sanitary line along Walnut Street. This project is being advanced by the County in coordination with the City of Tigard.

In addition to this project, the Walnut Street and 135th Avenue intersection will also be upgraded to a signalized intersection in order to accommodate the existing traffic flow. Additional intersection improvements include the installation of sidewalks, curbs, bicycle facilities, street lighting, landscaping and drainage facilities.
