Your Sheriff's Office works hard to stretch the value of taxpayer dollars by deploying personnel and equipment for the greatest benefit of our county's residents. However, many innovative solutions or projects that can help improve neighborhoods and strengthen the community must go unfunded.
The Sheriff's Office Foundation of Washington County is comprised of citizens and business professionals who volunteer to serve as trustees. Foundation members raise and receive funds and select the projects that promise significant impact to our communities.
Fundraising Goals 2009-2010
Our goal for this fiscal year is to identify new donors to raise a total of $100,000 to help fund equipment and projects to remove graffiti in our community, achieve more efficient tracking of sex offenders, continue community education and prevention programs for kids, and to help the Sheriff's Office gain efficiency with improved technology. There are many projects worthy of funding!
What's Next . . .
SKID Program for 2010
Stopping Kids Intoxicated Driving (SKID) is a program that brings what appears to be a fatal alcohol-related traffic crash to local high schools to illustrate the consequences of drunk driving. More than 67,000 high school students in Washington County have attended a SKID program. SKID is so dramatic and well executed by emergency personnel that students often forget that the scene is not real. This program is largely funded through donations and deserves ongoing support!
Sex Offender Registry and Compliance Program 2009-10
There are currently more than 1,400 registered sex offenders in Washington County. As they move into our community, we want to deter their criminal activity by tracking them regularly and effectively. With improved technology and training, we can do more to protect innocent children and others vulnerable to sex offenders. Your funds can help provide technological upgrades and equipment to help us track offenders as they move into Washington County, and to make accurate sex offender information available to citizens. One vision includes a small team of patrol deputies to spend time each week tracking offenders in the field in order to confirm their compliance with registration requirements. This program will need substantial and ongoing funding.
Graffiti Removal Equipment
Inmate work crews can often be seen removing unsightly graffiti from public buildings, property owned by disabled or elderly persons, or cleaning up a business damaged repeatedly by graffiti or tagging. With modern mobile paint removing equipment, inmate workers can clean more properties and a wider variety of surfaces. Help us keep your community free of the spray paint blemishes of gang activity!

Projects with Impact
Project Lifesaver
In 2008, the Sheriff's Office Foundation offset the cost of electronic tracking bracelets for adults with Alzheimer's disease and children with Autism, so they can be located if they wander away from their families. The demand by families for these bracelets continues to grow, and they often cannot afford to participate without Foundation support.
Methamphetamine Education for Students and the Community
As the methamphetamine epidemic spread to Washington County, your Sheriff's Office responded with Crystal Misery, a powerful methamphetamine prevention program for families, local schools, and community groups. The Sheriff's Office Foundation funding assisted with the creation and distribution of Crystal Misery materials to all Washington County high schools.
Search and Rescue Equipment for Volunteers
Established in 1966, Explorer Post #877 is one of the oldest Law Enforcement Search and Rescue Explorer programs in the nation. As the primary ground Search and Rescue team for Washington County, members participate in Search and Rescue missions for lost people, downed aircraft and evidence in major crimes. Their skills and services have earned team members an unparalleled reputation. The Sheriff's Office Foundation has purchased training equipment, search supplies, and even a vehicle to support Search and Rescue personnel and volunteers!
