Volunteer Boards, Committees, & Commissions
Serving on an appointed board, committee or commissions is a great way to participate in decisions that affect you and to learn more about how your local government works!
The County's boards and commissions play a variety of important roles in advising the Board of Commissioners on service priorities, how to distribute available resources, and how to improve our collaboration with other parts of the community. Some (for instance the Civil Service Commission and the Board of Property Tax Appeals) actually have a quasi-judicial authority to review decisions by the County government.
Commission members are volunteers appointed by the County Board of Commissioners. In some cases members must be residents of Washington County, but residency is not a requirement for every board or commission.
Visit the Advisory Boards and Commissions page for a list of appointed Advisory Boards and Committees descriptions and volunteer opportunities, as well as a downloadable application form.
