May 21, 2024 Primary Election

Washington County is the filing office for the following positions on the May 21, 2024 Primary Election ballot:

  • Washington County Commissioner, District 1
  • Washington County Commissioner, District 3
  • Washington County Sheriff

Candidates need to submit a completed SEL 101 and pay the filing fee of $50 for a County office or submit petition signatures using Candidate Signature Sheets (SEL 121).

Candidates may submit the SEL 101 via email; the filing is not complete until the filing fee is paid or a sufficient number of petition signatures are submitted.

County candidates who do not receive more than 50% of the votes cast in the May Primary will go to a run-off election in the November General Election.

  • September 14, 2023 – Candidates may begin filing for open positions.  Washington County Elections Division is the filing office for County Commissioner, County Sheriff, and Precinct Committee Person positions in this election.  Candidates for city positions file with their respective city recorders.  (250 days before election; ORS 249.037)
  • March 1, 2024 – Last day for Special Districts to file SEL 805 Request for Ballot Title with Washington County Elections Division.  (81 days before election; ORS 255.145)
  • March 12, 2024 – Last day for county candidates to file a declaration of candidacy or nominating petition.  Last day to file for precinct committeeperson positions.  (70 days before election; ORS 249.037)
  • March 14, 2024 – Last day for candidate, who files candidacy with county clerk, to file a statement for county voters' pamphlet.  (68 days before election; OAR 165-022-0010)
  • March 15,2024 – Last day for candidates to file withdrawal form. (67 days before election; ORS 249.170)
  • March 21, 2024 – Last day for cities to file certified list of candidates and measures with Washington County Elections Division. (61 days before election; ORS 254.095)
  • March 25, 2024 – Last day to file measure arguments for the voters’ pamphlet.  (2 business days after the measure filing deadline; OAR 165-022-0010)
  • April 5, 2024 – Washington County Elections Division mails ballots to all military and overseas voters. (No less than 45 days before election; ORS 253.065)
  • April 22, 2024 – Washington County Elections Division mails ballots to all voters residing out-of-state (29 days before election; ORS 253.065)
  • April 30, 2024 – Last day to register to vote or choose/change party affiliation for the May Primary Election.  (21 days before election; ORS 247.025)
  • May 1, 2024 – Washington County Elections Division mails ballots to all registered voters.  (20 days before election; ORS 254.470)
  • May 21, 2024Election Day.  Washington County Elections Division will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Drop boxes will close at 8:00 p.m.  We will post unofficial results after the 8:00 p.m. deadline.  (ORS 254.470)
  • June 17, 2024 – Certification of the May 21, 2024 election results to the Secretary of State’s Elections Division.  (27 days after election; ORS 254.545)

All deadlines are at 5:00 p.m. on the dates indicated, except for the 8:00 p.m. deadline on Election Day

  • Second Tuesday in March
  • Third Tuesday in May
  • Fourth Tuesday in August
  • First Tuesday after the first Monday in November. (ORS 255.345)
