Apply for a Position on Community Boards and Commissions

Apply here to volunteer on a County board, commission or committee.

Granicus

Granicus is the system we use to track applications for boards and commissions. You can view and apply for all boards and commissions through this link. Once you finish your application you'll receive a confirmation email from Granicus at [email protected]. This is a non-working email address so if you don't receive an email, or have other questions, do not reply to that email address, instead contact the liaison for the board or commission you're applying for. If you need additional help, please contact [email protected] or call our office at 503-846-6288.

Skills and knowledge required

Boards and commissions are all unique and may have their own requirements for candidates but generally, we encourage you to apply for each and every board or commission you're interested in. We each have our own unique perspectives and experiences, and the County is interested in learning from those. All applications are kept on file for one year and reconsidered for any new positions that open up on the boards or commissions you applied to during that time.

Your experiences are valuable! If you've been part of the Civic Leaders Program at Washington County, leadership training, volunteer efforts, or have other kinds of experience outside of work, we encourage you to share that on your application.

Why we collect demographic information

Washington County is committed to equity, diversity and inclusion. Completing the demographic information on the application is volunteer but we encourage you to provide that information. The County uses this information to help ensure that advisory body appointments represent a broad cross-section of community. State and federal law prohibit use of this information to discriminate against you; however we will consider as elements of our appointment criteria, the degree to which the candidate will contribute to one or more of the following:

  • Diversity of viewpoint;
  • Demographic variety reflecting the racial and gender population of the state or the region of appointment; and
  • Remediation of existing disparities between the number of qualified applicants of one race or gender and the number of members of such groups serving on the board, commission, committee or council.
