Over 100 people gathered at St. Matthew Parish Hall on Monday June 17, 2013 to hear about and participate in a discussion about The New Slavery: Human Trafficking.

Washington County Deputy District Attorney Paul Maloney facilitated the presentation and discussion. Tigard Police Detective Yon Soo Lee spoke on domestic human trafficking, including prostitution investigations and prosecutions. Multnomah County Sheriff's Detective Keith Bickford addressed foreign-born human trafficking.

A panel including members from the Washington County Sheriff's Office, Immigration Counseling Service, and the Interagency Joint Task Force on Human Trafficking engaged members of the community in a discussion about best practices for human trafficking crime prevention and the efforts local government agencies are taking to collaboratively approach the complex and difficult issues inherent in these crimes.

Representatives Joe Gallegos and Ben Unger were present to contribute their support for the efforts being made to address this difficult issue.
