Washington County DA's Office Partners to Establish Annual Statewide Child Sex Abuse Prosecution Seminar

On November 6 and 7, 2017, the Washington County and Multnomah County District Attorney's Office established the first annual Statewide Child Sex Abuse Prosecution Seminar. Chief Deputy DA Kevin Barton (Washington County) and Senior Deputy District Attorney John Casalino (Multnomah County) developed and facilitated the two day prosecution seminar. The seminar focused on providing training for deputy district attorneys statewide regarding best practices for investigating and prosecuting child sex abuse cases. Over forty prosecutors attended to hear speakers from Washington, Multnomah, Marion, and Clackamas County District Attorney's Offices. The event was funded by the Child Abuse Multidisciplinary Intervention fund and co-sponsored by the Oregon District Attorney's Association. The Washington County District Attorney's Office is a leader in child abuse prevention and prosecution. The District Attorney is the chairperson of the Washington County Child Abuse Multidisciplinary Team and the office has a dedicated unit of seven deputy district attorneys and two victim advocates who handle crimes against children, including juvenile dependency and delinquency matters.
