Washington County’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has activated to support the agencies serving Washington County and coordinate throughout the wind event and ahead of any potential fire.

Key Incident Updates

Weather outlook:

  • The National Weather Service is forecasting a high wind event in Washington County from Friday morning through Saturday night. Winds speeds could reach 30 miles an hour during that time frame.
  • Temperature highs on Friday and Saturday will be over 90 degrees.

Public Safety Power Outages (PSPS):

  • The high wind speeds could knock down powerlines, which, if energized, could start a wildfire.
  • In order to reduce Washington County’s risk for a wildfire, PGE has annouced they will turn off power to certain customer areas.
  • PGE customers in PSPS zones in Washington County, will have their power shut off between 10am to 1pm Friday September 9, 2022.
  • To find out if you are in a PSPS zone, learn more about preparing for a power shutoff, or to contact PGE visit: portlandelectric.com/psps
  • PGE customers can also call PGE Customer Service at 503-228-6322 (available in over 200 languages)
  • You will receive a notification several hours before the power shut off if PGE conducts a PSPS.
  • PGE will work as quickly as safety allows to fully restore power. Factors like remote terrain and extensive damage can increase the amount of time it may take to fully restore power to all customers.

  • Anyone impacted by a PSPS can visit a Community Resource Center for ice, water, device charging, wifi, and information:

    •  Banks Jim’s Market (12350 NW Main St, Banks OR 97106). 7am-7pm daily until power is restored. (PGE managed)

    • TVF&R Station #72 (11646 NW Skyline Blvd, Portland OR 97231) 10am-6pm (Multnomah County managed)

Please help prevent wildfires:

  • The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning which means there is an increased risk of wildfires because of weather conditions.

  • Through the weekend, avoid activities that could start a fire. This may include using power tools, dragging unsecured trailer chains, shooting, and using fireworks and backyard fire pits. Please comply with the countywide burn ban and safely dispose of cigarettes.

  • Also, the Washington County Fire Defense Board has enacted a High-Fire Danger Burn Ban. Find more information here. 

    Staying cool in the heat:

    Air quality:

    • The National Weather Service is forecasting surface level smoke in the Portland Metro Area this weekend. 
    • Air Quality may range from monderate to unhealthy for sensitive groups.
    • All indoor cooling locations also offer a clean air space.

      Perspectivas meteorológicas:

      Cortes de energía de seguridad pública (PSPS):

      • Las altas velocidades del viento podrían derribar las líneas eléctricas, que, si se energizan, podrían iniciar un incendio forestal.
      • Con el fin de reducir el riesgo del Condado de Washington de un incendio forestal, PGE puede cortar la energía a ciertas áreas de clientes.
      • Pronostican que esto podría suceder tan pronto como el viernes por la mañana y trabajaran lo más rápido como la seguridad lo permita para restaurar completamente la energía.
