Washington County's historic 101-acre fairgrounds is located just south of the Hillsboro Airport along N.E. Cornell Road in Hillsboro. In keeping with the County's Fair and Fairgrounds Agreement of 2010, the Washington County Board of County Commissioners created the Fairgrounds Advisory Committee (FAC) to provide advice and counsel to the Board of Commissioners on the Fairgrounds Master Plan, Fairgrounds Capital Projects Plan and other major site-related initiatives. 


Fair Complex Master Plan Update

Construction is beginning soon on the Event Center, the centerpiece of a long-term plan to revitalize the Washington County Fair Complex. While exciting, there is much more potential for community benefit at the Fair Complex, so a new round of planning is starting focused on: 
  • The western portion of the Fair Complex site 
  • Multi-use improvements that would benefit county residents year-round 
  • Long term stability and viability of the annual County Fair 
  • Maximizing the benefits of the new Event Center for all Fair Complex activities 
  • Identifying projects that can be recommended for priority funding 
This update of the 2008 Master Plan will include an assessment of possible building and infrastructure improvements and a review of funding strategies. It was initiated by the Fairgrounds Advisory Committee (FAC), which will report its findings to the Washington County Board of Commissioners. Update Timeline

Major process steps going forward include:
  • Community Survey (Summer/Fall 2018) - The survey grounds the FAC in community wants, needs and vision. 
  • Financing Strategies (Fall/Winter) - Funding alternatives for the plan's implementation are developed. 
  • Concept Design & Public Input (Current/Fall 2019) - Options for infrastructure and multi-use improvements are developed and shared. 
  • Concept Selection (Fall 2019) - The FAC considers feedback, refines concepts and selects an option to recommend to the Washington County Board of Commissioners (BCC). The BCC holds a public hearing and considers for approval a new Master Plan and financing strategy.

Fairgrounds Advisory Committee

The Board of County Commissioners created the nine-member Fairgrounds Advisory Committee (FAC) in the fall of 2010 to provide advice and counsel to the Board of Commissioners on the Fairgrounds Master Plan, Fairgrounds Capital Projects Plan and other major site-related initiatives. The Fair Board President (or designee) represents the Fair Board on the committee. Other members of the FAC represent various countywide stakeholders in the success of the Fair event and use of the fairgrounds property.
