Pet-Themed Gingerbread House Contest Supports Animal Shelter

For Immediate Release: Friday, November 16, 2012

Sponsored by: Health and Human Services Department, Animal Services Division

A new gingerbread contest sponsored by the Bonnie Hays Animal Shelter asks creative animal lovers, "What would your pet's ultimate dream house look like?"

Gingerbread houses must follow a pet theme (doggie dream house, cats frolicking in a cabin, hamster holiday home, etc.) and be made of 95% edible materials. Full contest details are available at or by calling Jennifer Keene at 503-846-7041.

Contest entries may be submitted December 1-3 between 1-4 PM at the Cedar Hills Crossing shopping center, located at 3205 SW Cedar Hills Blvd, Beaverton, OR 97005. There is a suggested $10 donation to the shelter with each entry.

Categories for entry as an individual or a group are: adult, teen (13-17), youth (12 and under), and professional. Prizes include gift certificates to the Cedar Hills Crossing store of choice and a professional cake decorating lesson from Stumptown Cakes.

Gingerbread House Contest entries will be on display to the public in the interior mall area at Cedar Hills Crossing through the end of December. Prizes will be awarded in each category based on overall appearance, originality and creativity, difficulty, precision and consistency of theme. A People's Choice Award will also be given to the entry that receives the most votes (in the form of donations). Winners will be notified and announced on the Bonnie Hays Facebook page on Wednesday, January 2, 2013.
