Planning for Services Under the Older Americans Act

Community with aging and disabled people

About the Older Americans Act

The Older Americans Act of 1965 was the first federal level initiative aimed at providing comprehensive services for older adults. It created the National Aging Network comprising the Administration on Aging on the federal level, State Units on Aging at the state level, and Area Agencies on Aging at the local level. DAVS is the designated Area Agency on Aging for Washington County. In accordance with the Older Americans Act, each area aging on aging must develop an area plan and regular updates to the state area on aging.

Due to COVID-19 the Area Agency on Aging 2017-2020 Area Plans have been extended for six months and will now expire on June 30, 2021. The next area plan is due March 19, 2021 and will encompass the service period July 2021 through June 30, 2025.
