Support is available! During these uncertain times, it is normal to feel stressed, anxious and even a little depressed. However, if you are having thoughts of suicide, feel hopeless or are feeling like you can’t cope right now, help is available. Please call 503-291-9111 to speak with a counselor who can provide support and help you manage your feelings. We can get through this together and please remember that you are not alone.

Help from a mental health professional is available 24/7 for people experiencing a mental health crisis. Concerned friends, family or community members are also encouraged to call. Peers are available to provide support to you. If you speak a language other than English, a phone interpreter will be provided.

The Washington County Crisis Line is staffed with experienced counselors. The Crisis Line provides assessment, crisis intervention, referrals to local resources and treatment. Peers are available to provide support to you. The Crisis Line works closely with other community crisis services including the Crisis Team, 9-1-1 and local emergency rooms.

Washington County has a COVID-19 supportive counseling program. The COVID-19 Community Counseling Program (CCCP) is a partnership between Washington County, Lifeworks NW, Western Psychological, Asian Health and Service Center, and Lutheran Community Services NW. CCCP provides support to Washington County community members who need help related to the pandemic. Core services include:

  • Supportive counseling with an emphasis on developing coping skills and resilience.
  • Support in understanding personal reactions, planning action steps, and developing solutions to resolve losses and overcome difficulties. 
  • Referral and connection to longer-term behavioral health care if needed.

Services are provided at no charge. Linguistically and culturally specific services are also available.

This is not a crisis line, and you will not be able to speak with a counselor right away. It is also meant to be short-term assistance (a few sessions per individual). Hawthorn Walk-In Center           503-291-9111

The Hawthorn Walk-in Center provides urgent care services for mental health and addiction concerns. Phone and video crisis supports are available 24/7 during COVID-19. Please call the crisis line at 503-291-9111 to access services. The crisis line will work with you to determine the best option for response. Trained peer mentors are available to listen. Washington County Crisis Team

The Washington County Crisis Team is comprised of master's-level clinicians who can respond 24-hours a day to children and adults in crisis when face-to-face contact is needed. There is no charge for this service. Available services include:

  • Assistance with referrals for ongoing treatment services and resources
  • Brief crisis stabilization and safety planning
  • Prioritized response for police, fire and EMS on mental health calls
  • Interpreters are provided for non-English speakers

Referrals to the Crisis Team are made by the Washington County Crisis Line. Please call 503-291-9111 to discuss your situation.

Mental Health Response Team (MHRT)

Trained crisis clinicians ride with the Washington County Sheriff's Office and respond with deputies on mental health calls that come through 911. The team provides direct collaboration between dedicated law enforcement and behavioral health professionals for the best outcomes in emergency situations. At this time, MHRT is available every day from 11 a.m.-11 p.m. and takes referrals from Washington County 911 as well as direct requests from municipal police agencies in Washington County. Coping with stress and anxiety

Tips for reducing stress and anxiety:

Take care of your body. Take deep breaths, stretch or meditate. Try to eat healthy, well-balanced meals, exercise regularly, get plenty of sleep, and avoid alcohol and drugs.

Make time to unwind and remind yourself that strong feelings will fade. Take breaks from watching, reading or listening to news stories. It can be upsetting to hear about the crisis and see images repeatedly. Try to do some other activities you enjoy.

Connect with others using technology. Share your concerns and how you are feeling with a friend or family member. Maintain healthy relationships.

Maintain a sense of hope and positive thinking as much as possible.
