Child and Family Services and Providers

Learn when to seek help for a child showing mental health symptoms. Discover which providers serve individuals on the Oregon Health Plan.

When to get help

People often wonder when to seek help for their child who is having behavioral health symptoms. Consider asking for help if any of the following are present:

  • Symptoms or behaviors make it difficult for the child or adolescent to do normal activities. This may include playing with friends, attending childcare or going to school.
  • Parents or caregivers cannot do normal activities due to the child or adolescent's symptoms or behaviors.
  • Symptoms or behaviors do not seem to be improving even with the parent or caregiver working to address them.

Help is available. There are several agencies in Washington County that provide treatment for children and their families. The first step is to have a behavioral health assessment. After the assessment, a clinician will work with the family to decide what will be the best treatment option. There are many different services that may be recommended. These include:

  • Individual, group and family counseling
  • Skills training
  • Parent education
  • Case management
  • Medication
