For Immediate Release: Monday, May 20, 2013

Sponsored by: Health and Human Services Department, Disability, Aging and Veteran Services (DAVS) Division

The public is invited to a Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 27, from 1:00-2:15 p.m., at the Veterans Plaza adjacent to the Washington County Fair Complex. The collaboration among Washington County, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars will honor our nation’s brave service members who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Program highlights include recognition of Purple Heart recipients, a prisoners of war ceremony, 21-gun salute and a focus on Washington County's role in World War II. The names of the 129 WWII Killed in Action from Washington County will be read. Personal stories of local living WWII vets from the Merchant Marine, Navy, Army, Marines and Army Air Corp will also be shared.

Among the participants will be leaders from the Hillsboro VFW and American Legion, Hillsboro Mayor Jerry Willey and Board of Commissioners Chairman Andy Duyck. A keynote address is planned by Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici.

The Memorial Day Ceremony will take place rain or shine. Attendees may park in TriMet’s lot at the Fair Complex/Hillsboro Airport MAX Station. For more information, call Washington County Disability, Aging and Veteran Services at 503-846-3060.
