What is Health Careers NW?

Health Careers NW ( HCNW ) is a program funded through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services designed to help low-income families get new skills, career training, and job placement services in high-demand family-sustaining healthcare fields such as Medical Assistant, Dental Assistant, Medical Billing and Coding, Pharmacy Technician,  Phlebotomy, Nursing Assistant, Substance Abuse Counseling, and more.

The program offers:

  • Career coaching
  • Funding for training
  • Assistance with transportation, professional clothing, and other costs
  • Obtaining your GED, tutoring, and help with other academic activities if needed
  • Career exploration services
  • Job search and placement services after training

Through a cooperative aligned partnership between Washington County Department of Housing Services, Worksource Portland Metro, and Worksystems Inc., Health Careers NW provides opportunities for current and future housing clients to access these skills, training, and employment programs in order to help them get connected to living-wage careers and achieve life goals.

The Health Careers NW program provides a dedicated Career Coach to help participants navigate through the often-challenging process of skills building, career training, and job search. Here are some of our most significant results so far…

  • 68 clients have completed training and received a valuable healthcare credential
  • 35 clients have found employment in a healthcare field they enjoy
  • 91 clients have learned new skills, obtained a GED, or been HIPPA certified
  • Most clients engaged in the program have increased their income by more than 100%
