Land Use Ordinances
A land use ordinance adopts, amends or repeals provisions of the Washington County Comprehensive Plan, which includes the Rural Natural Resource Plan, the Comprehensive Framework Plan for the Urban Area, Community Plans, the Transportation System Plan, the Community Development Code and/or related maps, or otherwise directly governs the use of land.
Washington County's 'ordinance season'
The Washington County Charter establishes an annual land use "ordinance season" from March 1 - Oct. 31. All public hearings for land use ordinances must take place during this time frame. If a final decision has not been reached by Oct. 31, the Board of Commissioners (BOC) may elect to set another hearing date and time after March 1 of the following year. For more information on ordinance season, visit FY 2018-29 A Year of Change.
