Moving Ahead: FY 2020-21 annual report available online

Moving Ahead: FY 2020-21, the Washington County Land Use & Transportation (LUT) annual report, is now online.

“FY 2020-21 was another tough year for everyone as we continued to adjust to COVID restrictions," said Stephen Roberts, LUT Director. "Staff moved ahead, continuing to make our community a safe, welcoming place for all who live, work and travel here."

In FY 2020-21, Traffic Engineering staff recommended expanding the Neighborhood Streets Program. This traffic-calming program helps reduce speeding and improve safety. The Washington County Board of Commissioners adopted changes to the program’s eligibility requirements to allow more road types and reducing the speed thresholds. This means more neighborhoods qualify for the program. The number of safety campaigns rose from 58 in FY 2019-20 to 98 in FY 2020-21. Watch the video.

Community Planning staff began work on implementing the requirements of House Bill 2001, also known as middle housing, in FY 2020-21. The bill requires many local governments to allow middle housing in neighborhoods where single-detached houses already exist. Washington County already allows some types of middle housing in residential neighborhoods but needs to allow more. Visit Middle Housing: Creating Options, Meeting Needs and watch the video.

Other LUT activities in FY 2020-21 include:

• Completion of the Tualatin Valley Trail Concept Plan. See A Trail for All.
   
• Managed 90 road projects in design or construction.
   
• Completed 47,078 building inspections.
   
• Installed 323 ADA ramps.
   
• Maintained pavement conditions on County roads at or above target levels.
