Beef Bend sink holeA sink hole on Beef Bend Road at 146th Avenue resulted in closure of the road 1.7 miles west of Hwy 99W on Tuesday, Dec. 22.

All travelers, including bicyclists and pedestrians, will need to use an alternate route such as Bull Mountain Road.

The hole is about 2 feet in diameter on the surface, but widens below the road, extending into a travel lane. Water can be seen at the bottom of the 20-foot hole, as well as a broken section of culvert and several utilities.

Inspectors and engineers are assessing the situation and will be developing a repair plan. The road may remain closed for some time. Updates will be released as soon as more information is known.

Washington County is committed to planning, building and maintaining a great transportation system, ensuring the safety of all roadway users, and operating the County roadway system in a cost-effective and environmentally responsible manner.
