The Washington County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday (May 3) proclaimed May National Building Safety Month in support of work performed by the Department of Land Use & Transportation (LUT).  Read the proclamation

Founded by the International Code Council, Building Safety Month is celebrated each May to raise awareness about critical safety issues. Building codes, and the officials who enforce them, make communities safer and more resilient. Homes and other buildings built in compliance with building safety codes result in resilient structures that minimize the risks of death, injury and property damage.

This year’s theme is “Safety for All: Building Codes in Action.” Throughout May, LUT will reinforce the importance of energy and innovation, building safety careers, disaster preparedness and water safety. Follow us on Twitter and Facebook to learn more.

Washington County is committed to protecting the uses of the land and to building and maintaining a great transportation system, balancing care for the natural environment, economic development, safety and community liability.
