Building safety, public works proclamations approved

Proclamations in recognition of Building Safety Month and National Public Works Week were approved by the Washington County Board of Commissioners during its regular meeting May 5 in support of work performed by the Department of Land Use & Transportation (LUT) staff.

The 2020 Building Safety Month theme is "Safer Buildings, Safer Communities, Safer World."  Founded by the International Code Council building safety month is celebrated each May to raise awareness about critical safety issues. Building codes, and the officials who enforce them, make communities safer and more resilient. Homes and buildings built in compliance with building safety codes result in resilient structures that minimize the risks of death, injury and property damage.  Read the proclamation

National Public Works Week, sponsored by the American Public Works Association, is May 17-23. The event energizes and educates the public on the importance of public works. The 2020 theme, "The Rhythm of Public Works" represents the facets of modern civilization that grow out of the efforts put forth by the public works professionals across North America.  Read the proclamation

“LUT’s Building Services and road Operations and Maintenance employees provide exceptional services to the Washington County community,” said Stephen Roberts, Director, LUT. “In recent months, these men and women have gone above and beyond to make sure that travelers, developers and community members have had access to services and safe roads, despite the challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. We are proud to celebrate their efforts.”
