MSTIP Online Open House: Help select projects for funding

For Immediate Release: Friday, July 08, 2022

Sponsored by: Department of Land Use and Transportation

MSTIP 23-28 logoThe public is invited to participate in an online open house to help the Washington County Board of Commissioners select street projects for the Major Streets Transportation Improvement Program (MSTIP) 2023-28 Funding Cycle.

MSTIP is an innovative program funded by property taxes to pay for street improvements. The MSTIP '23-'28 Funding Cycle includes 25 proposed street projects both inside cities (incorporated areas) and outside cities (unincorporated areas) in Washington County. Both the County and cities proposed the projects.

There is $160 million available to fund MSTIP projects in 2023-2028. The estimated cost of all the proposed projects is much higher. The online open house has interactive maps describing projects in each of the four County Commissioner Districts. The survey asks the public to select up to three projects for funding in each Commissioner District.

Survey results will help the Board understand community priorities as they create the final list of projects for funding.

“We’re asking the public to tell us which projects they think will most benefit our community,” said Kathryn Harrington, Chair, Washington County Board of Commissioners. “We need the public’s help to make sure we spend their MSTIP dollars on what matters to them.”

The Board is expected to approve the final project list in late 2022.

MSTIP improves our transportation system for bicyclists, pedestrians, drivers and bus riders. It has paid for more than 150 projects totaling $952 million since 1986. Visit to learn more.
