All those traveling this weekend should check the weather forecast and travel conditions before hitting the road, sidewalk or bike lane.

The weather forecast calls for snow starting Saturday through Monday, Dec. 25-27. Temperatures are expected to fall well below freezing. The snow and cold may continue into next week.

Additional Washington County Land Use & Transportation road crew staff will be on standby starting Friday. Snowplows, sand trucks and other winter weather road equipment is ready. LUT will begin running three eight-hour shifts (24-hour coverage) starting at 12 a.m. Sunday.

Before driving:

  • Check Washington County road conditions via traffic cams at www.tripcheck.com and www.wc-roads.com.

  • Check weather forecasts and adjust travel plans accordingly.

  • Allow extra time to reach your destination.

  • If driving through snow zones, make sure you have traction devices on or in your vehicle.

Before biking:

  • Wear a helmet. Always.

  • Be sure you have good, properly inflated snow tires.

  • Make sure bicycle brakes, reflectors and lights are in good condition.

Before walking/rolling:

  • Wear reflective or bright-colored clothing so you can be seen.

  • Wear shoes or boots with non-slip soles.

  • Make sure that you can hear what's going on around you. Hats covering your ears can muffle sounds of approaching vehicles.
