Following the passing of State Senator Aaron Woods from the Oregon State Senate, the boards of Clackamas, Washington and Yamhill counties will hold a joint virtual meeting at 6:30 p.m. May 7 to interview candidates and select a replacement for the open position.
Oregon law(Link is external) requires that a legislative vacancy be filled by county commissioners representing the district in which the vacancy exists. Senate District 13(Link is external) includes voters in Clackamas, Washington and Yamhill counties. State law also requires anyone appointed to fill the vacancy must have been a member of the same political party as the resigning legislator for at least 180 days prior to the vacancy.
